Fitness and Health for AGERs

We are very fortunate to have dozens of excellent websites on fitness issues specifically designed for AGERs.  I have selected the ones that I consider  top tier options.  I recently  completed certification as a Personal Trainer to be of better service to you.   One of the main lessons I learned in my training was the importance of including the following four areas in all exercise fitness programs:  Strength, Cardiovascular, Flexibility, and Balance.  Not all sites will include these four elements so combine them as necessary to meet this essential requirement. I will be doing addtional searches to find resources covering all four areas. Let me know if you have any to recommend and I will screen them.

As I emphasize in my "Move More Muscles" course in the AGER+LEARNS Decade Challenge, think "movement" rather than "exercise" to help erase the thought of sweat, hard work, muscle pain, exhaustion, and other negative images often associate with "working out".  Think of "playing in" instead!   To your greater health and fitness!

This unique website has been in operation for at least the last 15 years. It was created by Frank Wilhelm, a retired electrical engineer with a passion for health and fitness.  The site has  a large library of articles, most written by Frank. He focuses on his 7 Pillars of Aging.  Here's a link to one of his most recent articles.  This is an outstanding contribution from a serious practitioner of healthy aging.

The very energetic Cindy's invitation: "Whether you're 60, 70, or beyond, it's never too late to boost your energy, relieve pain and improve your health through exercise! " This site is definitely for the active senior. I found only a few chair exercise routines. If you want a serious "workout" see Cindy!

Sometimes it is difficult to set up our own schedule of exercise and stick to it. A site like VIVO might be for you. It is a fee-based fitness program that promises you will "laugh, chat, and have fun all while building strength, improving balance, and enhancing brain health." They invite you to book a free information session. Maybe it's right for you! Sorry, no You Tube videos.

There are many sites that provide exercise programs for AGERs. I like this one mother-daughter one because of the modifications provided for different fitness levels. Equipment is minimized. They use warm ups and cool downs, so important for preventing injury.

Peter Bowes is mentioned as a contributor or host but no further bio details were provided. I was able to locate the You Tube videos to complement the audio portion. There is also an Instagram account with around 250 posts and nearly 1K followers. I Supplement sales appear to support the podcast and video production. Topics are healthspan oriented with interviews from professionals.  Let us know what you think!

Frank  Ring is a walking guru!  His platform is not designed specifically for agers but is easily adapted to us.  You won't find a better organized walking program anywhere on the internet!  Click on his website and You Tube Channel, explore his podcast, and blogs and you will see what I mean. He will also "walk you " through his books and newsletter. I have a series of videos planned on this amazing walker and his step by step health and fitness methods.  Let's take a walk with Frank!

This website is a hidden gem. 'Wanna be a fast twitcher? Eric, physical therapist, will teach you how to improve your cardio from your chair! His sincere and sensitive manner will keep you twitching to better health.

That's Bob to the left and Brad on the right. They have thousands of videos and millions of subscribers so something must be working for them.  Their light-hearted presentation style and banter is probably one reason. Any imaginable human movement and source of pain seems to be covered. Choose exercises wisely and only if your health care provided recommends them.  Be careful if alone!

The Ready State is a system for teaching muscle mobility to all ages and athletic levels. The platform of videos, articles, podcast, and  books is provided by Dr. Kelly Starett, physical therapist and his mate Juliet, an attorney and entrepreneur. Besides fee-based services they provide free introductory lessons in the above content.  Both have been professional athletes and currently train  performance competitors. I will detail their book Built to Move elsewhere and show how it conforms to my Move More Muscle course in the AGER+LEARNS Decade Challenge.
