Keeping your brain muscle exercised and in top condition is critical for longevity and physical and mental health. You need to feed it with the vitamins of learning and stretch it with memory challenges on a consistent basis. Thanks to the miracle of neuroplasticity your brain can actually get bigger as you age with proper care and nourishment. Without this daily stimulation it will begin to wither just as your body muscles do until it is beyond repair.
I watched my mother's cognitive decline in her 80's as dementia progressed to the point where she did not realize I was her son. As a result, I have a very active program of cognitive stimulation involving playing musical instruments, juggling, memorization, study, and other forms of active learning. I hope you will join me in this process. I will give you some suggestions that I have found helpful in my pursuit of daily "brain gains."
